The Cure and more

Been a while since I've made a personal post here.

Saturday I had traded days off with Chantal so that I could go see the Meatmen at Hell. It was a good bill: Eddie and the Louvers, Intent To Injure, The DooshBags, and then the Meatmen. It was the first time in I believe 12 years that the Meatmen had played Prov. It was an all ages show, in this case I think "all ages" meant that old people were welcome, as less than 20% of the crowd was under 30. It was nice to see tons of old friends and people I'd lost touch with thru the years. During ITI's set I caught an accidental boot from "someone"..ahem.. stagediving and ended up with about an inch long gash with an even bigger bruise in the side of my head. I went to the bathroom to see how bad it was, and of course there's no mirror in the guys bathroom at Hell. Peter Lee sees it and tells me that I should go to the hospital and get stitches. I grab some paper towels to put pressure on it, and go outside to see how bad it really is. I look in a car mirror to see, it's a decent cut, lots of blood. I put the towel tighter, went back inside and enjoyed the rest of ITI's set. After ITI were done, I took a walk up to the shop to clean it up and bandage it. I get back to the club and the Doosh Bags are on. I've seen them tons of times, they're fun silly hardcore. Great people, fun band. I sit back to get my 2nd wind while they play. The Meatmen go on and I'm up front the entire show. Tesco Vee comes out in a white jumpsuit with ABBA in sparkle letters down the legs, and a giant inflatable penis. They started out with Razamataz and ended with Centurians of Rome. They played a decent selection of Meatmen classics and even did covers of Fear(I Love Living In The City) and Skrewdriver(I Dont' Like You). The only thing that could have made their set better is if they had played longer. Some great pics of the show are up on
http://www.returntothepit.com/

Monday Night, me and Kristian went to Boston to see The Cure. I had purchased some great seats (10th row center). The opening band 65 Days of Static, were OK, nothing thrilling but not horrendous. The Cure played a nice blend of old, new, hits, and non hits. Robert was more animated than he's been the past couple of times I've seen them. The sound was a bit hollow without keyboards at times(especially on Inbetween Days). They did 3 encores. It was overall a great show. Saw a few friends before and after the show. Wished I could have hung out longer...Kristian was in a bad mood driving home, that kinda killed the rest of the night. This AM was better, she apologized for being angry, and gave me a ride to work.

My car should be back and running like new by the weekend. Mark from The Automatons is a mechanic by day, and is doing all of the work for me for about 1/2 price. It's nice to have friends that can help out sometimes. I hope that I get to return the favor to him at some point.

One really cool thing that happened today is that old school tattoo artist, Shanghai Kate (friend and former employee of tattoo legend SAILOR JERRY) came into the shop today. She's been doing some work on one of Rodneys regular clients and wanted to stop in and say hi to us. She brought some really cool books that showcased the collection of Sailor Jerrys old stencils as well as 3 huge binders of his ORIGINAL acetate stencils. I purchased the books she had as well as 2 orig. Sailor Jerry acetate stencils (circa 50's). I'm going to have them framed and display them at the shop. I would have bought more than 2 but they're not cheap and in some way I think that more than a couple would be overkill when displayed as an art object.

Thats about it for now.

Here's what I played:

Set 1
The Spookshow - "I don't wanna but I do"
Zumbis Do Espaco - "Mato Por Prazer"
Plan 9 "Day Of The Dead"
Mr. Underhill - "Sat.Night Creeper"
Blitzkid - "Terror In The Haunted House" (R)
Mister Monster - "Prom Night"
Brickbats - "Do The Dead Girl"

Set 2
The Meteors - "Wanna Make A Monster"
The 3-D Invisibles - I Wanna Dig Up Bela Lugosi
Kastle Greyskull - "Dead Kitty" (R)
The Undead(NY)- "When The Evening Comes"
The Deadbillies -"Halloween" (misfits cover)
The Other -"Hyde Inside"

Set 3
Alien Sex Fiend - "Now I'm Feeling Zombified" (R)
The Deep Eynde -"Hoodoo" (City Lights version)
Samhain - "Archangel"
X-Ray Spex- "Oh Bondage, Up Yours"(R)
TSOL - "Code Blue" (R)

This was my last "Guest" spot Djing at Sanctuary.
Here are the 12" records, LPs, split LPs and 12" Compilations that I'm selling so far. IF you don't see a record that you "know" I own, I'm either not selling it yet, another friend called "dibs" on it when they found out I was going to be selling my vinyl off, or another of my "friends" stole it at some point.

The 7" records and 10" records will be added soon (I hope)

The prices listed were compiled using the low end of the selling prices on Musicstack and Gemm, along with some other input from a few reputable online punk record sellers. Quantity discounts are available if you're buying a few. Shipping IS extra for non local buyers. Local buyers, we can arrange times to meet up and make the deals. Feel free to message with ANY questions or to buy a few records.

LPs/ 12"

Adolescents (self titled) 1st press on Frontier records, w/insert $15

Adrenalin OD "Humgousfungusamongus" with lyrics/innersleeve $20

The Adverts "Cast of Thousands" Orig RCA pressing w/ insert $35

GG Allin "Always Was and Always Shall Be" Orange records, 1st pressing, promo copy with promo package inserts $75

GG Allin & The Holy Men "You Give Love a Bad Name" Orig Homestead records pressing, still shrink wrapped, shrink slit to avoid warping, never played. $35

GG Allin "Dirty Love Songs" 2x lp set on Fan Club records w/ fold out sleeve. $80

GG Allin & The Texas Nazis "Boozing and Pranks , Black & Blue records. still shrinkwrapped, never played $35

Alternative - Orig press on Corpus Christi records, with insert/sleeve, textured cover ..an insanely rare anarcho punk record $150

Amebix - No Sanctuary Orig Press , some edge wear on cover, has orig insert/inner sleeve, vinyl near mint. another Insanely rare record $125

Amebix - Arise Orig 1985 pressing on Alt Tenticles with insert. $75

Amebix - The Power Remains red vinyl w/ gatefold sleeve and insert $25

And Also The Trees - st- Reflex Records pressing

Angelic Upstarts "We Gotta Get Out of This Place " ORIG Warner Bros pressing!!" $35

Angelic Upstarts "Blood on the Terraces" Link Records $25

Angelic Upstarts "Englands' Alive" ep , Link Records $45

Angelic Upstarts "Power of the Press" Link Records $25

Anti Nowhere League " We Are...

Just sitting around working on the never ending list of vinyl that I'll soon be offering for sale it's mostly late 70s to mid 90s punk, Oi!, Hardcore, and some Goth and Postpunk mixed in.

It's been a long week, STILL trying to get ahold of the landlord at the space that I want for the shop.

I REALLY had a LOT of fun spinning last Friday at Xmortis, probably more fun than I've had DJing in a while.Sadly I didn't write down my setlists, I got great crowd responses from many songs that I didn't expect to get any response from, and killed the floor once with a song that I expected everyone there to enjoy (Nasty by the Damned).... I miss spinning at Goth nights.

I'm on the verge of settling a deal that'll bring Heresy back as a monthly event (I had postponed it myself a while ago due to financial situations and not wanting to skimp or compromise anything that could affect the quality of the night.

Other DJing news, I had been spinning at Darkstar for a few weeks, and due to a percieved conflict of interest, I'll no longer be spinning at Darkstar. I wish that night good luck in the future. Sorry, that I can't be part of it. I actually did enjoy spinning 80's New Wave there, and would love to get a spot spinning New Wave at another night at some point.

ALSO I have a live event coming up at Hell, it's in colaberation with Drunk Robb and 13th State Records. it's going to be the Funeral Crashers, Automatons, Drunk Rob & The Shots, The Enabelers, and Tripple Corpse Horror. It's going to be Sunday Nov 4th @ Club Hell 4pm doors ALL AGES....Thats right the return of All Age Sunday afternoon Punk shows to Club Babyhead...err Club Hell. I'll have a flyer for that hopefully by the end of today.

Time to go get my boxes of CDs ready for tonight.... Rock& Roll HS @ Club Hell
Tonight I'll be spinning the 9 to 11 slot alone, just me and a box of Punk rock CDs! It'll be great! Come down early to enjoy some great music, cheap drinks, and then later lots of dancier music as me and DJ Venom spin a blend of 80s New Wave, Rock, Metal and modern hits to keep everyone moving.

Sham 69

Last nights Sham 69 show was fucking amazing. It started off with Angels With Dirty Faces then went into 2 new tracks then the brilliant anti Disco classic Sunday Morining Nightmare, then went a bit bland with a few tracks of their new CD, which were ok, nowhere near as bad as the "post Punk" record that they put out in the late 80s. At least these were punk rock new songs. They quickly went back into their older catalog and the pace picked up.

The new singer for Sham seems to be a bit of a mid 40s football hooligan, which for Sham's style and sound suits them just fine IMO.
They got the crowd going nuts with all of their "hits". Sing along punk anthems like: What Have We Got, Tell Us The Truth, Hurry Up Harry, Cockney Kids Are Innocent, Hersham Boys, Hey Little Rich Boy, and of course ending with Their all time classic, If The Kids Are United. I'd have to say that the only song that I somewhat expected/wanted to hear that wasn't played was Unite and Win. The crowd was the expected blend of punks and skins, everyone was in good spirits and having fun, no stupidity or fights.

The lack of orig frontman Jimmy Percy was in my opinion a good thing. When Sham played in 1988 at the Living Room, it was a debacle. He was insulting the entire audience, refusing to play ANY of their old material.Insulting the punks and calling ALL of the skins in the audience Nazis, even tho there were card carrying SHARPies as well as a couple of non white skinheads in the crowd. Reasons such as these I'm sure contributed to the rest of the band giving him the boot.

I didn't write down my setlists from my between band sets, it was an A to Z of both new and old punk and Oi!, much more focused than what I usually spin on Fridays at R&R HS. All in all I had a blast. It was good to see a lot of my old friends out and about.

The night ended on an off note as on Wed's Club Hell hosts a Fetish night, that started letting people in immediately after Sham went off. The DJ for said fetish night was late in arriving. Yours truly had to keep some music on, much to the dismay of the fetish crowd, I ONLY brought punk and Oi with me (my friend Joe who owns the club asked me if I had any goth or Industrial with me, I felt bad that I couldn't cater to what that audience wants, but, I didn't think I'd need anything other than Punk or I would have at least packed a comp in the box of CDs I had brought with). I was drenched with sweat and tired from dancing and singing along during Shams set, so I just popped in a punk comp, switched the cd player to non stop play, and sat back until the Fetish night DJ arrived. One particularly rude person at the Fetish night was bitching both about the music I was spinning as well as hassleing Sham 69's merch crew to move their stuff out of the way faster. Once the other DJ arrived I quickly left to come home and take a shower and eat before bed. Despite the odd ending to the night, it was still a great time.

Here's a video from the show, shot by my friend Lisa, I'm sure you'll see me going nuts in the crowd...

<lj-embed id="1" />

For Those that Don't read my myspace...

About 2 weeks ago I decided to change my DJ name. I put out bulletins on myspace about it but forgot to post a LJ entry.

My reasoning for the change has many facets to it, despite the fact that I am/was well known under my previous name (DJ Lovecraft) after renound horror author HP Lovecraft. I wanted to incorporate a name that also involved my actual name. That coupled with the fact that I was getting tired of explaining who HP Lovecraft is to people that didn't understand what my DJ name meant (and YES these were Rhode Islanders that didn't have a clue who HP Lovecraft is). I decided to delve into the cheesier side of the Horror genre for my new DJ name. I took the name from an amazing trilogy of Brazillian Horror films featuring the character Coffin Joe. While the source is far more obscure than my original DJ name It definitely shows a lighter more fun side of horror to me, as well as requireing less explanation.

Other reasons involve just a desire for a rebirth. I've left behind many things that I once believed mattered. (and no this doesn't mean that I'm going to start playing the same generic shit sets that everyone else plays to fit in.)

So from here on..... HORROR has a new name in New England: DJ Coffin Joe.....

I've got a few guest spots booked in Sept and Oct. spinning music that actually matters to me: Goth,Deathrock,Post Punk,Horrorpunk, and HorrorBilly , so be on the lookout for fliers.

And of course I spin EVERY Friday (that I'm not booked elsewhere) at Rock & Roll HS @ Club Hell, with DJs Venom and Skunk, come early as I'll be spinning classic Punk, Horrorpunk, and Psychobilly until 11

My good friend Peter Lee went on a rant last week about how the jukebox DJs in this "scene" (Both Goth and Industrial)become the more "popular" DJs and get booked far more often than anyone with any sense of vision about pushing the boundaries. It seems that these jukeboxes even get booked to spin, opening for bands that I've been spinning for years, bands that they know nothing about and certainly wouldn't "lower" themselves to spin. I found that hilarious when I saw the flier for an upcoming show in another state with one of the worst of the jukeboxes spinning, on the same bill as a band that are among my favorite bands both to listen to and DJ..... I guess it's definitely more of a who's ass you're kissing, rather than anything to do with talent or musical knowledge when it comes to that situation.

It would also seem that just about ANY vestige of an actual goth/dark music night in RI,other than Sanctuary, has been extinguished thanks to the efforts of the jukebox DJs (2 of which aren't even from RI, but are being used as pawns by the 3rd, IMO) pretending that the ooncey, soulless, shit they spin is "dark". I also find it interesting that they expound on the lines about " no pigeonholes or limits" when it's VERY pigeonholed by being ALL electronic...... I've often found it hilarious that those that preach musical open mindedness are typically the most closed minded people I've ever met when it comes to music. I could easily spin the types of watered down crap that you people spin and call "dark", beat matched and all. But I highly doubt that any of you would have a clue who 3/4 of the actual modern Goth or dark Post Punk bands in my CD box are, you'd call anything that you didn't know, or that had an actual guitar in it "old school" even if it just came out last week.

I've pretty much refused to dumb my sets down to the point of being a jukebox when spinning Goth/Deathrock/Horror (actual dark music, NOT techno in black). It leads to an interesting empass. I could just book bands and DJ good music at those shows as I've planned on doing (my recent travel to both LA and London put a hold on these plans) OR I can rejoin the staff at a night I left because I can't bring myself to play music that I feel is complete and utter shit, and if told to dumb my sets down, watch my enjoyment of DJing wither again as it did before I literally walked off the decks. Either way, I still have my weekly spot at Rock & Roll HS, spinning good music early on(Punk,Horrorpunk, and Psychobilly), and a blend of good music and crowd pleasers(juke box material) later in the evening. I'd just prefer to be spinning music that actually means something to me.I'm just not good at kissing ass. I'm nice to people as I meet them, but if they don't deserve my respect they don't get it. I also find it interesting that upon meeting one of the people in that ooncey "scene", when I was helping Peter and Ian at the Terrorfakt show, that when I introed myself by my DJ name, he was shocked that I was a nice guy....Gee I wonder who'd been bending his ears with bullshit about me.....

I'm sure that to the asshole(s) that have worked against me by telling lies to others about me,etc, that this is all fun and games. I could give a fuck less about your existance. It just sucks that you're still healthy and living your life, getting booked, hurting others with lies etc, all under the (transparant to anyone with a clue veneer) of being a good preson, while certian actual good people that I'm friends with aren't doing as well.

LA was amazing. I went there for a week for Star Wars Celebration IV (May 23 to May 29). I was invloved beyond that of the typical fan as I had 2 panels to present at. (one on Friday on Bootleg SW toys, and one on Monday on Figures from around the world). I also was helping out my friend Jordan at his booth during set up (a nice excuse for me to get a vendors badge and cherrypick the choice items from the dealer room as well as helping a friend).I also helped out my friend Shane at the SW tattoo contest by simply getting the contestants in line, in order etc. EVERYONE into Star Wars OR Tattoos should buy his book
"The Force In The Flesh". available at http://www.theforceintheflesh.com/

My first panel went smoothly other than that I felt rushed, as we were low on time and heavy on slides to show, so I may not have gotten as much info out as I would have liked. There were 3 of us doing 15 mins ea in the bootleg panel so it was hard to put as much info as I wanted into such a short time frame. I ran over, but not by much.

My panel on Monday "Figures from around the World". I really enjoyed it, as it was just me presenting, I didn't feel rushed, and I loosened up quite a bit more than I was on Fridays panel. I got thru my 70 or so slides and still had 15 mins for Q&A, My friend Tommy taped both of these panels and I'll youtube them when I get copys.

I got to see friends of mine from around the world, that I sadly only usually get to talk to online and see at events like this. It was a nice lift from the rut that I've been in lately. I had been selling tons of excess stuff from my collection so I could afford this convention, I still was much stingier with the dollars than I was at C3 but I didn't have to pass on anything that was focus specific to my collection that I won't be able to find at another time.

I also escaped the convention for a few hours on Sunday and went to the SHRINE store as well as the neverending hunt for ....Shoes.

Many that only know me from LJ and clubland, probably had little to no idea of my involvement in the Star Wars Collecting Community.I don't usually rant or talk about it in non SW forums/situations. It actually takes up far more of my time than anything music related, and usually leaves me with a much less sour taste than most things music "scene" related. I'm published both in print http://www.amazon.com/Official-Price-Guide-Star-Memorabilia/dp/0375720758/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/105-1804931-8150837?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1180848142&sr=8-2 I wrote the chapter on bootlegs for that book and have a chapter credit inside.
and online http://theswca.com/collectors.html on the topic of bootleg items, as well as the presentations and panels that I've been involved with. I'm generally regarded as one of if not "The" guy to ask about any unlicensed Star Wars items, as that's the main focus of my interest. I'm gearing up to co author and co self publish a book on the subject. I've been writing articles that can easilly be expanded into chapters for some time now. Once I've found a permanant home for Evolution (being inside University Tattoo is OK but I want what I had back, thank you) We'll be pricing out the printing and all that fun stuff. I've luckilly got design people and photographers willing to work on it for practically free.

And on a more musical note (pun not intended) I'm working on booking a ton of live shows for Club Hell in the near future. I'll most likely use the HERESY moniker for them, do 2 bands, one early, and one to end the night with and dance night in the middle, and with Hells new soundsystem making it easier, I'll likely be spinning most of the music between band sets. More details to come...

It's 5AM, Time to RANT

LOTS of shit to rant about. Tired of talentless assholes lying to get ahead in both my actual profession as well as my hobby profession.Tired of bottom feeders that cater to the lowest common denominator yet act like they've reinvented the wheel. Tired of skanks that think that because they have a vagina, and they're not afraid to use it(or let it be used for that matter), that they have crediblilty in any "scene" that they decide to jump into that day. Tired of users, especially those that play on the niavity and good naturedness(if thats a word) of others to do their dirty work. Tired of people that cheat on their Marriage partners by telling lies to the people that they're cheating with about supposed divorces, that aren't ever happening,....hopefully those on both sides will find out about the lies and finally there'll be some justice to a serial cheater/liar. Tired of friends that seem to either care more about drugs and booze, or "politics" and scenesterism, than they do about music. Tired of assholes telling lies about me to get people that have never met me to dislike me(IF I want someone to dislike me I can do it on my own thank you). Tired of dirty child molester types that prey on girls with low self esteem even being alowed to breathe the same air as me.Tired of doing double the work for none of the credit.Tired of people thinking that I'm angry when I'm not. Tired of employees using our outside of work friendships to get away with slacking or worse. Tired of being the only person on the Corrosion staff that does ANY sort of promoting for the night.Tired of people confusing honesty for arrogance. Tired of my brakes squeeking even tho I just spent $700 to fix them.Tired of everyone expecting life handed to them on a silver fucking platter.Tired of seeing spoiled brats STILL complain when they ARE being handed the key to a bright future on said Silver platter.Tired of people without any class or manors while at the same time, tired of people that have a PC stick up their ass about anything that could be considered offensive or inappropriate.Tired of feeling like I can't trust anyone because they'll stab me in the back.Tired of people expecting me to be able to read thier minds. Tired of seeing people that have stabbed me in the back out when I go out.Tired of feeling like I have no emotional support. Tired of my heart being torn in two.Tired of knowing that a great person that was a long time friend of mine died a month ago, while assholes that deserve death thrive.Tired of knowing that another friend that's one of the most positive and genuine people I've ever met is fighting cancer while lowlife liars, thieves and idiots are healthy. Tired of the fact that a cokehead piece of shit destroyed my life almost a year ago, and I'm still no closer to being back where I belong or seeing any form of justice.

Lets face it I'm tired (bonus points to whoever gets that reference)

If anything on here sounds like it's about you........
